Week 9 - Thing 23
Every classroom teacher should take this course. The Web 2.0 tools that are presented are an excellent way to promote more active learning in the classroom. Through the tools that are presented, students can create content in a way that will really bring home concepts to them and cement those concepts into their memory. Students were so excited about using these tools.
The other great thing about the Web 2.0 tools is that they are so easy to use! Teachers must not let themselves be intimidated or overwhelmed at the thought of learning something new! They need to just do it...and reap the rewards!!

Week 5 - Thing 12 Google Advanced & Custom Searches
Definitely worth checking out Google advanced and custom searches. I especially like the file type search. As a teacher, I can search for things like power point presentations that I might use on a particular topic. I can request a specific reading level for my students.
Another great capability is to search for sites that are like a site that i like.
I can also look for photos that are in public domain.
Great tool...looking forward to showing it to our students!!

Here is a fun techno-tip!
You can use http://www.tinyurl.com/
to create a very short url from a very long url.....nicer to use in emails and with students. I did this one...
http://utwente.academia.edu/NienkeMoolenaar/Papers/313201/Teaming_up_Linking_Collaboration_Networks_Collective_Efficacy_and_Student_Achievement
and turned it into
http://tinyurl.com/3mrnclm
How cool is that!

Week 3 Thing 5
This is a book that I found in mixbook. Children can make their own digital book! How cool is that?! Here is one on simple machines:
Week 2 Thing 4 Reflection
Here's the link to kidblog
I set up a general media center blog and also one for the Sunshine State Readers. All of our students who have read at least five of these books, get to come to our voting party. I thought as another reward, I would let them in on this blog, where they can talk about the books with each other.
I'm still thinking of ideas of how we can use the media center blog, but I'm thinking it could be a place where students talk about and review their favorite books, as well as discuss the things that we are doing in media on our Feature Island.
